5 Reasons Why I Created The Blog Structural Basics

And Why You Should Start Creating Content Too!

creating content on my blog has definitely uplifted my personal and professional life.

On the one hand, I learned new and improved existing skillets and on the other hand, content creation excites me.

In this very first post, I share my insights into the journey of my blog Structural Basics and discuss reasons why content creation could also be something for YOU.

The Need For Step-By-Step Structural Design Guides

THE reason why I started Structural Basics back in December 2021 was that an architecture friend of mine asked me how she can learn how to design timber flat roof beams for a small summer house.

I was sure I can simply google “timber flat roof beam”, send her the best guide I can find and add some additional information like where to find certain properties, codes and what software to use.

But, to my surprise, I didn’t find anything. Nothing.

I did more googling about other structural designs and was shocked at how little I found. And if I did find something, the design was bad, a lot of information was missing or the page was filled with ads.

That was the moment when I decided I need to start my own blog to make my knowledge accessible to more people.

Creating = Deepens Knowledge

Creating content around a topic you are knowledgeable about deepens your own knowledge a lot!

By writing it down, you often find yourself that you don’t remember anymore how certain things worked, and you go back to study it again.

You’ll Learn New Skill Sets

When diving into the world of content creation, you have to learn a lot of new things.

For me, that was:

• homepage design

• keyword research

• thumbnail design

• SEO optimization

I definitely improved my writing skills which became more engaging and my writing has got easier to follow.

In general, if you choose something else than blogging for content creation, than you could learn one of the following skill sets:

• Video editing (YouTube, Social media, etc.)

• Storytelling (YouTube, Newsletter)

• Photography

Creating Content Is Fun!

Above all, it’s been a lot of fun to start my blog.

So much, so that I am now starting new things, like this newsletter and a YouTube channel, later this year.

It’s inspiring to get good feedback from people you could help with your content.
